Why This Role Matters
As Marketing Director, you will play a central role in determining how many engaged readers have access to independent news and analysis they can trust in an era of misinformation and sensationalism.
You’ll be the principal architect of our growth strategy, building the systems and campaigns that will dramatically expand our reach and impact over the next several years. This isn’t about managing an established playbook—it’s about writing the next chapter of our story.
What You’ll Do
Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute a comprehensive subscription growth strategy aligned with our mission and business goals
- Own the marketing budget and demonstrate positive ROI across all channels
- Identify and prioritize new acquisition channels and audience segments
Funnel Optimization
- Optimize the full customer journey from awareness through conversion to retention
- Apply best practices to measure and improve the effectiveness of our subscription sales funnel
- Implement data-driven testing and experimentation frameworks
Paid Acquisition
- Plan and execute positive-ROI paid marketing campaigns across multiple channels
- Scale successful campaigns while maintaining or improving efficiency metrics
- Stay current on platform changes and emerging paid acquisition opportunities
Partnerships & Growth
- Build strategic partnerships with complementary media outlets, individual content creators, social influencers, and other organizations to expand our reach and subscriber base
- Develop co-marketing opportunities that advance GlobalPost’s mission and audience
- Represent GlobalPost in relevant industry and professional communities
Analytics & Reporting
- Track and report on key subscription metrics
- Provide regular insights and recommendations to leadership
- Build dashboards and reporting systems that enable data-driven decision-making
Team Collaboration
- Work cross-functionally with editorial, product, and operations teams
- Ensure marketing initiatives align with editorial values and product capabilities
- Communicate marketing insights that inform broader business strategy
What You’ll Bring
Core Expertise
- At least 5 years of experience in digital marketing with a proven track record of growing subscription revenue through data-driven optimization
- Deep expertise in subscription business models and the key metrics that drive growth (LTV, CAC, churn rates, conversion optimization, cohort analysis)
- Demonstrated success with positive-ROI paid acquisition campaigns across multiple channels (paid search, paid social, display, partnerships, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with marketing analytics tools, CRM systems, and A/B testing platforms
Skills & Qualities
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into action
- Self-directed and entrepreneurial – You’re a problem-solver who finds creative, cost-effective solutions and doesn’t wait for permission
- Strategic yet tactical – You can develop the vision and also roll up your sleeves to execute
- Excellent communicator – You can explain complex metrics and strategies to non-marketing stakeholders
- Passion for the mission – You believe in the importance of global news and the urgent imperative to preserve independent, nonpartisan journalism
Bonus Points
- Experience marketing to B2B/institutional customers alongside individual consumers
- Background in media, publishing, or mission-driven organizations
- Familiarity with international audiences and markets
- Experience managing marketing team members or agencies
The Details
Location: Remote – Residence in the continental United States strongly preferred.
Start Date: January 2026
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Team: You’ll collaborate closely with editorial, product, and operations teams; potential for future team growth as the company scales.
Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with your experience with salary in a range from $110,000 to $135,000.
